How to Make Thomas the Train Cupcakes

Many toddler boys are fans of Thomas the Train. It has become a popular party theme for young children, but there is not a lot of creative instruction readily available about how to make Thomas the Train cupcakes for your little one's Thomas party. With a few inexpensive materials, you can make Thomas the Train cupcakes that will please your toddler and impress your party guests.

Things You'll Need

  • Cupcake liners
  • Brown food coloring
  • Knife or icing spatula
  • Licorice strips
  • Thomas the Train cake topper
  • Bake one dozen cupcakes in cupcake liners.

  • Use food coloring to tint the icing brown.

  • Spread the icing on each cupcake using a knife or an icing spatula.

  • Place licorice strips in train-track fashion on the top of the cupcake. There should be two long, parallel strips and two shorter licorice strips that are perpendicular and contained within the longer strips.

  • Place a Thomas the Train cake topper on the top of each train track.

Tips & Warnings

  • For an added touch, use a rolling pin to flatten some yellow taffy. Cut the sides to form a Railroad Crossing sign, and use a black gel icing tube to make an “X” and two “R’s” as you would see on a typical Railroad Crossing sign. Use a toothpick to secure it to the cupcake.
  • Crush some Oreo-type cookies over the “ground” part of the cupcake to represent dirt.
