How to Remove Softener Dispensers From Amana Washing Machines
Amana top-loading washing machines often have a cup that sits on top of the agitator, which is used to dispense fabric softener during the wash cycle. If the dispenser breaks, or you must remove or adjust the agitator, you must remove the dispenser. Depending on the model of your Amana washing machine, the dispenser is secured with tension, or a lock ring at the bottom of the dispenser. Open the lid of the washing machine.

Determine if the fabric softener dispenser has a lock ring. If the dispenser has a lock ring, it is located just below the dispenser, and moves up toward the dispenser when squeezed.

Squeeze and hold the lock ring, if applicable. Rock the dispenser back and forth to free it from the agitator.
