How to Write a Paper on Your Computer

A computer can help you produce a high-quality paper.

It is important for a paper to be done neatly and edited for mistakes. If your computer has a Microsoft Windows operating system, then it probably has a Microsoft word-processing software program that you can use to write a paper. The process of writing a paper on your computer is fairly simple, and it allows you to complete the paper well and impressively.

Open a Microsoft word-processing software program on a computer that has a Microsoft Windows operating system. The software program may be accessible from your computer's desktop, by right-clicking your computer's mouse on your computer's desktop or by clicking on your computer's Start menu.

Create a new document in the software program. The method varies by program; clicking on the File menu and selecting "New" from the options that display is one method. The document has toolbars at the top of its screen. Depending on your software program, the toolbars may allow you to check spelling and count how many words are in your document. Click on "Tools" to select those options. In some programs, you may need to click on "Format" in the toolbar.

Select the size of your type's font by increasing or decreasing the font size. You may modify the type's color if you wish. Align text to the right or left of the page to type your name and other information that your assignment requires, and then align the text to the other side to place the date of your paper. Press the computer keyboard's space bar several times. Center the text to enter your paper's title.

Press the space bar several times, and then align the text back to the left side of the page. Adjust the line spacing to double space or 1 1/2 space, whichever is required or desired. Avoid using single spacing because it can be hard to read, especially when font size is smaller than 12 points.

Type your paper, indenting at the beginning of each paragraph. After you finish typing the entire paper, read it carefully from its beginning. Look for mistakes, and correct them. You may use the toolbar's options to determine the paper's word count and to check spelling. As you read, add information as needed, and remove information that seems unnecessary or irrelevant.

Click on File in the toolbar. In the options that appear, click on "Save As." That allows you to name and save your document. Type a name for your document, and keep the document open.

Click on File, and select "Print." You may choose to print two copies of your paper, one to turn in and one to keep for yourself.
