How to Groom Pomeranians
The Pomeranian is a tiny (or toy) breed, weighing on average 3 lbs. to 7 lbs. This means you will spend less time grooming your Pomeranian that you would spend grooming a large dog with the same fluffy coat. Regular grooming is important, though, if you want to keep that coat clean and healthy. Grooming can be a special bonding time for you and your lively Pomeranian. It can also give you advanced warning of developing health problems, such as growths or lumps, that need immediate medical attention.

1
Brush your Pomeranian two to three times a week to keep the coat tangle-free. Wet the coat first by spraying it with a mixture of water and conditioner. This will help prevent split ends and reduce tangles while you are brushing. Use a slicker brush, and brush your Pomeranian's fur forward.

2
Bathe your Pomeranian at least once a month, if not every two weeks. These small dogs spend most of their time indoors and won't get dirty as quickly as a dog that plays in the yard all day. Use a dog-formula shampoo and conditioner to keep your Pomeranian's sensitive skin from drying out. Blow dry your Pomeranian's fur on low heat.

3
Trim your Pomeranian's nails so they aren't long enough to click on the floor. Your Pomeranian may have difficulty (or pain) walking if its nails get too long. Use a nail clipper that is designed for small or toy breeds. If your dog has black nails, trim a little bit off of the ends of each nail, until you see a circle forming in the center of the clippings. If your dog has white nails, look for the quick, the dark spot inside the nail, and trim just below it. Apply styptic powder to the nail if you cut too close to the quick and the nail starts to bleed.

Brush your Pomeranian's teeth at least once a week. Purchase a dog toothbrush and toothpaste from your local pet store and gently use the brush to polish up your Pomeranian's pearly whites.

5
Clean out the ears and eyes as needed with cotton balls or soft washcloths and warm water. Keeping the ears and eyes clean and dry will help prevent infection.

Tips & Warnings
Reward your Pomeranian with treats and praise when you first start grooming it. This will teach it that grooming can be a positive experience and make future grooming sessions easier on both of you.
