How to Make Your New Tab Blank on Firefox

When you open the Firefox Web browser or open a new tab in a separate window, the browser displays your home page by default. If you do not tend to load the same website each time you open Firefox or display a new tab, this extends the amount of time that you have to wait before the browser is ready to use. Configure Firefox to display a blank page when you open a tab in a new window to decrease the amount of time needed for the browser to become responsive.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Firefox using the desktop or Start menu shortcut. Click the "Firefox" menu in the top-left corner of the application, and then click "Options."

    • 2

Click the "General" tab at the top of the "Options" window.

    • 3

Click the drop-down menu next to "When Firefox Starts," and select "Show a blank page."

    • 4

      Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • After configuring Firefox to display a blank page when opening new windows and tabs, you can still access your home page with one click by clicking the "Home" button in the upper-right corner of the window.
