How Can I Get a SSID Number?
The Service Set Identifier, more commonly known as SSID, is an ID that identifies a wireless network in an area where various wireless networks are available (i.e. corporate buildings and apartment complexes). When you scan for networks on your computer you'll need to know your SSID to connect to the wireless network that belongs to you. Getting the SSID number is a simple task that requires you to access your router's information. However, the steps to accomplish this vary depending on the router you use for your wireless network.
Instructions
-
Find SSID Number With a 2Wire Router
-
1
Launch your preferred browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome).
-
2
Type "gateway.2wire.net" in the address bar and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. You will be redirected to the 2Wire Gateway page.
-
-
3
Click the "Home Network" tab displayed on the upper region of the window. Look on the right side of the page, beside where it says "Status at a Glance." Your SSID number is displayed next to where it reads "Network Name," beneath the "Wireless Settings" heading. 2Wire displays the SSID numbers as the Network Name.
Find SSID Number With Other Routers
-
4
Launch the Web browser you use to surf the Internet.
-

Enter "192.168.1.1" in the browser's address bar and press your keyboard's "Enter" key. 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address for all routers that aren't 2Wire. Such routers include Netgear, LinkSys and Westell. With this default IP address, you can access your router's information, including the SSID number.
-

Type "admin" in the User name field, then type "password" in the Password field and click the "OK" tab. You will be redirected to your router's interface. This is the default username and password for routers.
-
