How to Be the Perfect Hipster

Outside the subculture, the term hipster is sometimes seen as derogatory.

Hipster is a slang term used to describe youth of the contemporary subculture who are often identified as young, middle-class urbanites with broad interests in independent works, particularly in music, film, and art that does not reach a mainstream audience. The term has generated into a widely known stereotype for those who take interests in specific mediums that aren't well known, sometimes even in an ironic sense.

Instructions

1. Change your appearance. Hipster culture is well-known for taking a minimalist approach to clothing and dress. Form-fitting clothing, such as skinny jeans, are often a hot commodity for many youth who identify as part of the hipster subculture. In addition, hipsters are known for their frugality, shopping at thrift stores for vintage attire.

   Hipsters are well known for owning a wide array of items, such as bicycles and sunglasses.

   Prioritize your necessities. Youth of the hipster subculture take pride in prioritizing what's important in their lives, and in the environment around them. For example, a popular hipster stereotype is to own a fixed-geared bicycle. In the hipster subculture, this is seen as protest against large automobile companies as well taking a minimal approach to travel and reducing environmental pollution.

3. Express creativity. A steady factor of hipster culture is the expression of creativity found in clothing, music, and art. Hipster culture is heavily influenced by self-sustained works created independently, and often lesser known outside the culture itself. For example, a common practice in hipster culture is to shop in thrift stores for creative, vintage clothing as well as listen to music found on the internet created by underground and independent artists.
