How to Install Speakers in a Pontiac Grand Prix

The speakers in your Pontiac Grand Prix are made of a paper cone mounted to a magnetic coil assembly. These speakers are sufficient for listening to music, but if you want to upgrade the speakers, you need to install high-end performance stereo equipment. The speaker system you buy will depend largely on your budget and your personal preference. Stay away from universal speakers--the Grand Prix uses speaker cages that accept only certain specific sizes that are made for the Grand Prix.
Installing Front Speakers
Step 1
Wedge the tip of a flat-head screwdriver under the front of the speaker cover. All of the speakers in the Grand Prix use front-mounted speaker covers.
Step 2
Pry the speaker cover off the speaker.
Step 3
Remove the screws holding the speaker in place with a screwdriver.
Step 4
Pull the speaker forward and unplug the speaker wire from the back of the speaker.
Step 5
Plug the speaker connector into the back of the new speaker.
Step 6
Mount the new speaker and secure it with retaining screws.
Step 7
Snap the speaker cover back into place over the speaker.
Installing Rear Speakers
Step 1
Pry up on the rear window trim panel with a flat-head screwdriver to remove it.
Step 2
Lift up on the speaker retainer. You might need to pry it up with a flat-head screwdriver.
Step 3
Lift up on the speaker and remove the tabs that hold the speaker in place from the opening of the rear window panel.
Step 4
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the speaker.
Step 5
Remove the rear speaker assembly.
Step 6
Plug the speaker wire connector into the new speaker and lower the new speaker assembly into the old speaker assembly mount.
Step 7
Press the speaker retainer and rear window trim back into place.
