How to Draw a Cartoon Person Step-by-Step

Use a pencil to sketch the outline of the drawing.

Cartoon drawings are some of the most fun art projects for an art student or enthusiast to do. Creating a cartoon person is a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon or as an expression of personal creativity. Cartoon people can be drawn in nearly limitless shapes and sizes with all kinds of wacky features. Drawing cartoons will require some basic drawing tools and a good chunk of time in order for the drawing to turn out right.

Instructions

1. Use a pencil and draw a small circle at the top of a blank piece of paper. This will be a guide for creating your cartoon person's head. Draw a line down the paper from the small circle. This line will be the guide for your person's body.

2. Draw another circle, slightly larger in size than the first one below the head. This will help you create the body of a chubby character. If you wish to create a slim, thin character use a rectangle shape instead of a circle. Draw two smaller circle at the top of the body on the right and left side to create shoulders. Use the pencil to draw a line from each shoulder to be the guides for creating your character's arms.

3. Draw two lines extending from the bottom left and right of the character's body. These will be guides for the legs. Place your pencil in the middle of the leg lines and draw two small circles for knees.

4. Use your pencil to draw a vertical line down the center of the face on the head. Make a horizontal line across the center of the face. Draw a circle for the eyes making sure the circles are to the left and right of the vertical line and that they each one rest on the horizontal line.

5. Draw the character's nose and mouth beneath the eyes on the vertical line running down the center of the face. Use your pencil to draw the ears on each side of the head where the horizontal line meets the side. You can make these facial features any size you want.

6. Draw lines running from the bottom of the head to the top of the body on either side of the guide line used for the body. This creates the person's neck. Draw the arms and legs by creating tube shapes around the arm and leg guide lines. Use the pencil to add small circles for hands, fingers, feet and toes.

7. Take a felt tip pen and go over the main lines of the drawing. Use an eraser to erase all of the pencil line work for your cartoon person. Take felt tip pens and color the cartoon person any colors of your choice.
