How to Make a Flower Girl Dress
Depending on the color scheme of your wedding and the style of the bridesmaids' dresses, it may be difficult to find a little girl's dress for the flower girl that works well with all the other elements. One way to have the exact dress you desire and add a personal touch is to make the flower girl's dress yourself. However, if you are not an experienced seamstress, the stressful time before your wedding is not a good time to take on a challenging sewing project. It may be better to delegate the job to a friend with sewing experience.
Things You'll Need

1
Go to the local fabric store and select a pattern and fabric for your flower girl's dress. Look on the back of the pattern envelope for a list of items needed to complete the project. This will include the amount of fabric needed as well as any notions, such as zippers, buttons, etc.

2
Lay out the material according to the pattern. Cut the pattern pieces apart and pin them to the material. Carefully cut out each piece of material to match the pattern pieces.

3
Follow the pattern directions to sew the main pieces of the dress together.

4
When the main pieces are sewn together, have the flower girl try on the dress. If the garment is too big, carefully pin the seams to mark how much it needs to be taken in. If the dress is too small, estimate how much needs to be let out.
-
5
Make the necessary adjustments and finish the seams. Put in the zipper, sew on buttons and add embellishments.
-
6
Have the flower girl try on the dress again. Use pins to pin up the skirt to the proper length. Sew in the hem by hand.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure and allow ample time to complete this project so it does not add additional stress to what is already a stressful time.
If the flower girl is wearing a long dress, be sure to hem the dress short enough that she will not trip on the bottom of the dress.
