How to Fix the Latency With the US-122 & Ableton

In audio production, latency is the gap between when you press a key on a keyboard or make a sound into a microphone and when you hear it through the speakers or headphones. When using the Tascam US-122 audio interface with Ableton Live or any other recording software, you may experience a long latency time, which makes recording difficult. The latency can be adjusted in the software control panel for the interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button on your computer, then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Tascam US-122 Control Panel" to launch the control panel for the audio interface.

    • 3

Click the slider under "Latency" to adjust the number of samples to buffer. The lower the number, the shorter the latency. Test the lowest setting to see if there are stability problems when recording. Move the slider higher if necessary until the system becomes more stable.

    • 4

Open Ableton Live and click "Options," then "Preferences" and make sure that the driver type is set to "ASIO" for best performance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lower latency settings can cause instability on slower systems. Use the highest latency setting that is satisfactory to keep your system stable when recording.
