How to Anchor Text to an Article

How to Anchor Text to an Article thumbnail
This kind of anchor is not necessary to anchor text.

Text that you have written and published online can be linked to other articles, which are also published online. Common venues for publishing articles include blogs, websites and online news organizations or educational institutions. Your own text can then be linked to these articles using the HTML anchor tag, which is abbreviated as the letter "a."

Instructions

    • 1

Highlight the text you wish to link with your mouse. This can be done when you are working in a text editor, such as Notepad, BB Edit, or online creating paragraphs for your blog.

    • 2

Insert text that reads </a> at the end of the selected passage. This is the end of the anchor link text and, if done correctly, this HTML tag will not be visible on a blog or website. Since this part of the tag is very short, it is best to insert it first.

    • 3

Find the article to which you wish to link and go to the opening page.

    • 4

Copy the HTTP address in the address bar. This text will always begin with the letters and characters, http://

Copying is done by highlighting the text with the mouse and then pressing the "Ctrl" key and "C" key at the same time.

    • 5

Type the characters and letters <a href=" "> at the beginning of the selected text.

    • 6

Paste the HTTP address for the article between the two quotation marks that are located within the first part of the anchor tag. The quotation marks are displayed in the last step.

    • 7

Continue with writing your blog or webpage.

    • 8

Upload your blog post or web page to the host server.

    • 9

Read the material and test the link to see if it takes you to the appropriate article.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many pre-designed blogs, such as wordpress, typepad and blogspot have shortcuts available that precludes the use of the anchor tags.

  • Shorter text segments can be linked just as easily as larger ones. Also, they often read better.

  • The appearance of your linked text can be improved by using CSS Hyperlink Styles.

  • It is better to link to an article than extrapolating material, which is probably copyrighted.
