How to Clean the White Body of a MacBook

Keep your MacBook white after cleaning by buffing away skin oils with a cloth.

No matter how diligent you are, a white MacBook will eventually start to get grimy and show wear. These stains and scratches come from being carried, especially if you don't keep your MacBook in a protective sleeve, but can also come from dirt, dust and pollutants attracted to the oils left behind on its surface as you handle it. You can clean and shine your MacBook back to a brighter shade of white, although surface scratches may be permanent.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean, lint-free cloth
  • Stain removing pad

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down your MacBook and remove the power cord and the battery.

    • 2

Wipe the case with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove as much surface dirt and grime as possible.

    • 3

Dampen a new commercial stain removing pad, such as Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or a Scotch-Brite Easy Erasing Pad. No water should come out of the pad when squeezed. Rub the pad across the surface of the MacBook case. Gently rub the eraser on spots, marks, stains, smudges and areas of discoloration.

    • 4

Buff away residue from the pad, if any, from the MacBook surface with the clean, lint-free cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • You don't have to use a brand new stain removing pad when you clean. However, ensure the pad isn't too old or dirty, or it won't completely clean your MacBook cover.

  • Never spray a cleaning product onto your MacBook cover. It can damage the finish.
