How to Fix Solid Red Light on a 2Wire 2701 Modem

A solid red light on your 2Wire 2701 gateway is an indication of a connection issue, which is often due to a service error that prevents your gateway from establishing a connection with the DSL broadband service. A system reboot can correct the problem, and the reboot tool is accessible through the 2Wire 2701's home portal that controls your gateway settings. If the red continues to remain a solid red light, technical support from your Internet service provider is required.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug all power and Ethernet cables from your gateway and allow 15 seconds to pass before inserting the cables back into the gateway. Push the cables into the gateway until they click to ensure they are securely in the gateway's ports.

    • 2

Launch your web browser and access the 2Wire Home Portal (see Resources.)

    • 3

Click "Check Connection" in the broadband connectivity pop up window in your browser. The system performs a system scan to detect your Internet connection.

    • 4

Click "Reboot System" to manually restart the system. During this process the gateway's lights will turn off and flash while attempting to reconnect to the broadband service.

    • 5

Exit out of your browser window and shut down the application. Restart the computer and launch the Internet browser to test the connection.
