How to Crochet Bedskirts
Bedskirts are attractive home decor items. Not only do they accent your furniture, they also hide the items being stored under your bed. This homemade bedskirt project uses the double crochet stitch, which is a stitch that is slightly lacy, giving the bedskirt an elegant touch. It can be hard to estimate how much yarn is needed for a large project such as this, especially when each crocheter's gauge is slightly different. Therefore, plan on using at least four large skeins of yarn.

1
Use the ruler to measure the length and width of your bed's mattress. Add one inch to each measurement. Cut a piece of fabric with scissors to match your new measurement.
-
2
Fold 1/4 inch of one side over onto the back side. Sew it down using the sewing needle and thread. Do this for every side. Then fold 1/4 inch of one side over onto the back side again and sew it down. Repeat this for every side to finish hemming the fabric.

Make a line of chain stitches that matches the length of one of the fabric's sides. The chain stitch is created by making a slipknot in the yarn and placing it on the crochet hook. Catch the yarn with the hook's tip and draw it through the slipknot's loop. Drop the loop from the hook. A new loop should remain on the hook. Catch the yarn again and draw it through the loop as you drop it from the hook (See Reference 1). Continue doing this until you have a strand of chain stitches that are as long as one side of the fabric.

4
Make a double crochet stitch into the last chain stitch. The double crochet stitch is achieved by wrapping the yarn once around the hook to make a loop. There should already be one loop on the hook. Insert the hook into the stitch, catch the yarn and draw a third loop onto the hook. Catch the yarn again and draw it through the two loops closest to the hook's tip as you drop them from the hook. Two loops should remain. Catch the yarn again and draw them through the remaining loops as you drop them, leaving you with a single loop on the hook (See Reference 1).

5
Make one double crochet stitch into each stitch in the row. Make two chain stitches once you reach the end of the row, then turn the work around. Continue this pattern until your work is the same height as the distance from the bottom of your mattress to about 1/2 inch above the floor. Do not make two chain stitches at the end of the last row. Cut the yarn and draw it through the last loop.

6
Repeat Steps 3 through 5 for each side of the fabric.
-
7
Sew each crocheted section onto its side of the fabric using the sewing needle and thread. Then cut long lengths of yarn and use them and the tapestry needle to sew the vertical sides of the crocheted sections together. Weave in the loose ends with the tapestry needle.
