A conibear is a type of body gripping trap designed to instantly kill the animal it catches. They are available in a wide variety of sizes. The 110 is one of the smallest conibear traps and is especially suited for trapping muskrats. Muskrats can be found in many ponds and wetlands, and they are a popular choice of beginning trappers because they are abundant and one of the easiest animals to trap.

Instructions

    • 1

Grab the trap spring with one hand and compress it.

    • 2

Grab the trap jaws with your other hand and pull them together.

    • 3

Move the trigger, which consists of the two small wires that hang from the top of the trap, to the center of the jaw.

    • 4

Attach the dog, which holds the jaws together when the trap is set, to the top of the trigger wires.

    • 5

Place the trap outside of a muskrat house. The best spot is in front of the hole through which the animal enters and exits the house. Drive a stick or stake through the holes on each side of the trap and into the bottom of a pond or wetland. The sticks or stakes should be at 45-degree angles and form an X above the trap. The trap should be positioned such that a muskrat entering or exiting the house has to swim through the middle of the trap.
