How to Replace Triple Pane Windows
A window pane is the sheet of glass itself. Double-pane windows have two sheets, with space between them, for better energy efficiency. Triple-pane windows are three sheets of glass, with space between all three, which are generally the most energy-efficient types of windows. When you replace old triple-pane windows, you don't necessarily have to put new triple-pane windows in, as the number of panes doesn't affect the installation. However, if you install anything less than triple-pane, you will be losing energy efficiency. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Take measurements of the width and height of the opening, moving the old triple-pane sashes up or down as needed to get at the edges. Order the new windows based on the measurements.
-
2
Remove the old windows after the new ones arrive. Take them out by prying off the interior trim perimeter from the inside edge of the opening with a hammer and pry bar and pull the sashes into the room. Keep the trim intact as you take it off.

3
Stand the new window unit in the opening, bottom first, and push in the top until it rests against the trim around the exterior edge. Stand a level next to the unit and push shims in around the sides to get it level.
-
4
Drive mounting screws outward through the sides of the unit, at the provided screw holes, and the surrounding wall frame to secure it.
-
5
Fill the spaces around the edges of the unit with spray foam insulation.
-
6
Set the trim back in place around the unit, covering the spaces. Secure the trim with a finish nailer. Caulk around the trim.
