How to Decoupage a Christmas Tree
Create a colorful Christmas tree design on plates, trays, wood boxes and other decorator items using paper and glue. The art of decoupage allows you to permanently affix paper to most solid objects. Any type of paper works well, including glossy magazine sheets, decorative scrapbook papers or holiday wrapping paper. The decoupage glue, available at craft stores, provides both an adhesive and a protective coat to the finished piece.

1
Trace or draw your Christmas tree shape onto the item you are decoupaging. Only draw the outline of the tree and keep it simple. The decoupaging adds the interior detailing.
-
2
Tear or cut out the paper shapes you are decoupaging on. Use a craft knife to cut smooth edges and sharp corners that fit the outline of the tree.
-
-
3
Arrange the paper scraps inside the tree outline. Move them around and trim them to fit until you are satisfied with the design.
-
4
Coat the back of a paper piece with decoupage glue, using a foam brush. Smooth the paper onto the design, smoothing out air bubbles with your fingers. Repeat for each paper piece until all are secured to the item.
-
5
Paint decoupage glue over the entire tree. Allow the glue to dry completely, then apply a second glue coat.
-
6
Glue decorations to the tree design, including sequins, glitter and other paper or foil embellishments. Coat the tree with a final coat of glue once the embellishments are affixed. The layers create a three-dimensional effect on the tree design.
