How to Save Graphics on Gimp

GIMP is a freeware graphics and photo-editing application. While not quite as powerful has a high-end commercial application, for most purposes it is more than adequate. Newcomers to GIMP can sometimes find the layout and functions a bit confusing, and it takes practice to get used to them.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch GIMP and open or create a image or file.

    • 2

Click "File" and choose "Save As." In the dialog that appears, name your file. Then click on the "Advanced Options" near the bottom.

    • 3

From the listed file types, choose the desired type. For example, while GIF will generally give you a smaller file size, JPEG will often give you better quality and BMP or PNG will compress the image even less. Click "Save" to save the document.
