How to Take Swipe Off of an LG Optimus

The LG Optimus is an Android smartphone with a touc screen. This device has no hardware keyboard and instead uses a software keyboard on-screen. Using the touch sensitive display to input text can be very similar to using a standard keyboard, but this phone comes with an input method called Swype, which makes it quite different. Rather than tapping the buttons, you slide your finger around the keyboard only lifting your finger between words. For some users, this method allows for faster input, for others it's a pain. If you aren't a fan of Swype, you can permanently disable it.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the menu key from your phone's home screen.

    • 2

Press your finger against the touchscreen and slide it up or down to scroll through the list of options. Tap "Settings."

    • 3

Tap "Text Setting." Scroll down to and tap "Select input method."

    • 4

Tap "Swype" to turn the service off. Tap "Android Keyboard" to activate the standard keyboard on your device. You can now enter text like you would with any normal keyboard.

Tips & Warnings

  • Swype will remain off until you manually restore it in the phone's settings.
