How Do I Read My Own Fortune With a Large Spread of Playing Cards ? thumbnail
Playing cards are often used in fortune telling.

You don't have to be a fortune teller to read your fortune. For centuries, people have used playing cards to give them insight into the past, present and future. Like tarot cards, playing cards have four card suits that pertain to various aspects of life. For example, spades pertain to finances while hearts deal with love. Every card in the deck has meaning. A three of hearts, for instance, signifies the need for caution. To start your reading, determine what spread you want to use. Larger spreads give more insight to a situation or question.

Instructions

    • 1

Think about a situation or question you want answered. Keep this question or situation to yourself.

    • 2

Become acquainted with what each playing card means as a way to guide yourself through the reading. Serena's Guide to Divination and The Guarded Path are two websites that provide the meanings of cards. You can always refer back to the meanings during your reading.

    • 3

Shuffle your cards thoroughly, ensuring that all cards are face down.

    • 4

Pick three cards from the deck. Without looking at them, lay them face down next to each other over to the far left. These cards represent aspects of yourself.

    • 5

Choose three more cards from the deck. Place the cards next to one another face down next to the three cards already laying face down. These cards represent your family.

    • 6

Take an additional three cards from the deck and lay them down in the same manner as the previous cards. These cards represent your friends.

    • 7

Draw three cards to represent what you expect from the situation and lay them down next to the other cards. These cards symbolize how you expect the situation or question that you are reading for to turn out. Draw three more cards to represent what you do not expect from the situation. These cards represent what is predicted to happen with the situation or question and may be the opposite of how you expect the situation or question to turn out.

    • 8

Draw three final cards and lay them out in the same manner as the previous groups of cards. These cards represent the outcome of your situation.

    • 9

Read your cards. Begin with the set of cards on the far left and work your way through each set of cards. Flip each set of cards over as you read them and interpret each card as it pertains to your situation and the category it is in. For example, the set of cards that represents your family gives you insight into your current family situation as it pertains to the question that you have asked. The set of cards that represents the outcome of your situation gives you a potential solution to your problem or question.
