Round Robin Quilt Instructions
Round robin quilts are made by a group of quilters who each have a piece of the quilt to sew. Quilters choose individual blocks or borders and add on to the previous quilter's work, creating a round robin quilt. Quilting groups or circles use round robins to create fun and comradeship among members. A resulting round robin quilt from the hours of hard teamwork establishes a lasting visual memory.
Instructions

1
Establish the rules of the round robin quilt. For example, how many people will sew the quilt, how you will choose the quilters, who will sew what pieces, the order the quilters will sew the pieces in, how you'll choose the order, the fabric the quilters will use and the length of time each quilter will have to complete her portion of the quilt.
-
2
Distribute the materials, including fabric and any other notions such as thread.
-
-
3
Share the contact information of each quilter for keeping in touch, swapping ideas and solving problems.
-
4
The Sun Country Quilters suggests, "Include a label that each person may sign and a journal tell[ing] why you made the original piece and each person can add a comment about choices."
-
5
Encourage the quilter chosen to start the quilt to make the first block. As a general rule and tradition of round robin quilts, this first quilter will receive the completed round robin quilt as a keepsake.
-
6
When the first quilter is done with his block, make sure he passes the block to the next quilter, who will add on to the quilt. Repeat this process until the quilt is finished.
-
7
Allow time for each quilter to complete her portion of the round robin quilt.
-
8
Schedule a time with the quilters involved to unveil the completed round robin quilt. Make the unveiling a potluck party with disposable cameras for keepsake memories.
-
9
Give the finished quilt to the quilter who sewed the first block.

Tips & Warnings
According to Margreta Silverstone, a well-known quilter and member of numerous professional quilt associations, "The success of a round robin quilt depends on a few factors: well defined rules, willingness to do one's best [and] accept[ing] the final quilt owner's decision."
Keep in touch with the quilters as they sew their part of the round robin quilt, keeping them on schedule and making sure they have not hit any proverbial roadblocks.
