How to Draw an Extra Dimensional Staircase

How to Draw an Extra Dimensional Staircase thumbnail
A drawing with a one-point perspective has lines converging at one point.

Drawing anything with extra dimensions can be difficult without using vanishing points. Vanishing points are marks that you can draw lines to, which create perspective. To draw steps it is easiest to use a one-point perspective, which means the vanishing point is above them, so you converge vertical lines at that point.

Instructions

  1. Draw Perspective

    • 1

Draw a rectangle in light pencil, with a greater height than width.

    • 2

Use a ruler to divide the "y" axis of your rectangle equally. For instance, if you rectangle is 6 inches tall, then divide it into 12 sections with dots marking the measurements.

    • 3

Draw horizontal lines in light pencil, at every dot that you have marked on the rectangle. Your picture should resemble a wide ladder.

    • 4

Measure a halfway point on your rectangle's width, mark it with a dot and draw two lines from this point down to the bottom left and right corners.

    • 5

At each point where the horizontal lines meet the diagonal lines, draw vertical lines between the steps.

    • 6

Continue this up to approximately a third of the rectangle's height, and finish your steps off by erasing the excess lines.
