How to Send an SMS From Adium
Adium is a desktop instant messaging application for the Mac OS X operating system. The Adium client allows you to connect to a variety of instant messaging networks including AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. You can also use Adium to connect with your contacts via SMS messaging by using a plugin that extends the functionality of Adium. The Adium SMS plugin allows you to add cell phone carrier and number details to your contact and send text messages via the Adium interface.

Download the Adium Send Email/SMS Plugin from Adiumxtras.com.

Double-click on the Adium Send Email/SMS Plugin application package to begin installation on your computer and then follow the on screen instructions.

Click on the "Finder" icon to access your file folders. Click on "Applications" and double-click "Adium" to start the application.

Right-click on the contact you want to SMS and then click "Edit Email/SMS Settings..."

Enter the ten-digit cell phone number, select the recipient's cell phone carrier from the drop down menu and click "Save".

Right-click on any contact that has been updated with a phone number and carrier and select "Send SMS". Adium will open a text message field. Enter your message and click "Send".

Make sure you input the correct phone number for your contacts or they will not receive your message.
