How to Use Google Maps to See Your Home

You can view satellite or street view imagery of a specific address in Google Maps.

In addition to finding directions, you can also use Google Maps to locate and view a specific address, such as your house. Many Google Maps users can view their home with the Street View feature, which provides 360-degree imagery. Depending on the location of your house, however, it may not be visible with Google Maps' Street View. If your house is visible in the Google Maps Street view, you will be able to use the yellow man icon to view different angles of your home. If your house is not available through the Street Maps feature, you can view an up-close satellite image on your property.

Instructions

Street View Method

1. Go to the main Google Maps website.

2. Enter your home address in the search box, and then click the "Search Maps" button. A map will be displayed on the screen, and you will notice a small pushpin icon which represents your home address.

3. Locate the small yellow man icon on the left side of the screen.

4. Click and drag the yellow man icon to the pushpin that represents your home address. The street view will be displayed and you will see your house. If the camera view is not centered on your home, use the compass buttons to rotate the camera view.

Satellite Imagery Method

1. Go to Google Maps.

2. Enter your home address in the search box and click the "Search Maps" button. Click on "Satellite" on the right side of the map.The satellite map view will appear, and your home address will be represented by a red pushpin icon.

3. Click the "+" icon on the left side of the screen, which is the "Zoom In" button. If you click the "Zoom In" button four times, you will be able to view a close-up aerial view of your house.
