By default, when you open the Outlook Express application on your computer, you should see a toolbar at the top of the window with buttons for various functions, including composing messages and viewing the address book. If you accidentally disable the Outlook Express toolbar, you will need to edit the program's settings to get it back. All toolbar settings are controlled by the Outlook Express layout options.

Step 1

Restart your computer and reopen Outlook Express to see if the toolbar returns by itself. Sometimes the toolbar can disappear due to a minor glitch that can be resolved by a simple restart. If the toolbar not does not appear after restarting your computer, proceed to the following instructions.

Step 2

Open the Start menu and click on the "Outlook Express" icon.

Step 3

Go to the "View" menu at the top of the window and choose "Layout." A pop-up window will open with various layout options.

Step 4

Check the boxes next to "Toolbar" and "Folder Bar."

Step 5

Click on the "OK" button to save the settings and return to the main Outlook Express window. The toolbar at the top of the window should now be visible again.
