How to Fix Display Settings on a PC

You computer has a number of display settings that allow you to customize your viewing experience based on your activity. Your display settings are adjustable according to what you are using your computer for and what type of monitor you have. Setting your screen resolutions according to the type of display you use will optimize your computer's power and provide you with the best view available.

Adjusting the Display Settings for an LCD Monitor

Step 1

Right-click anywhere on your desktop, and click "Personalize" to open the Personalization window.

Step 2

Click "Display Settings" at the very bottom of of the list. The "Display Settings" dialog box opens.

Step 3

Adjust the setting by clicking, holding and dragging the slider under "Resolution." The highest available resolution is what Windows recommends for your monitor.

Step 4

Click "OK."

Adjusting the Display Settings for a CRT Monitor

Step 1

Right-click anywhere on your desktop, and click "Personalize" to open the Personalization window.

Step 2

Click "Display Settings" at the bottom of the list. The "Display Settings" dialog box opens.

Step 3

Adjust the resolution by clicking, holding and dragging the slider under "Resolution." The highest available resolution is the native resolution of your monitor.

Step 4

Adjust the refresh rate to at least 72 hertz. Click "OK."
