How to Use a Dyson on Frieze

Frieze carpet is constructed from long fibers that are twisted and turned to create a plush appearance similar to shag. The longer fibers make cleaning frieze carpeting a challenge, especially when it is exposed to kids and pets. Dyson is a brand of vacuum known for its design and power, which is ideal for cleaning the difficult, thick frieze carpeting.

Things You'll Need

  • Carpet rake
  • Work a carpet rake through the frieze carpeting. Holding the rake firmly in both hands, work it back and forth until the entirety of the carpeting has been raked. The rake will help remove any dirt, pet hair or debris deep between the carpet fibers. Use a light hand when using the carpet rake to avoid ripping out the individual carpet strands.

  • Adjust the Dyson vacuum to use on carpeting. The adjust lever is found on either side of the bottom of the vacuum. Choose the setting for carpets.

  • Vacuum the frieze carpeting in a back and forth motion with the Dyson. Use the vacuum to remove the dirt and debris from the main area of the carpeting.

  • Remove the vacuum's wand from its holder. Use the wand to reach any nooks and crannies such as under furniture or in corners.

  • Unplug the Dyson vacuum and set it aside.

  • Work the carpet rake over the frieze carpeting a second time to remove any matting from the carpet fibers and help restore the carpet's plush appearance.
