How to Jump Backward in "Assassin's Creed II"

Jumping is an important skill in the multiplatform game "Assassin's Creed II" as players need to traverse buildings and rooftops while avoiding enemies. The main character, Ezio, has a wide repertoire of moves including the ability to scale walls and other surfaces and hang on to these before jumping. Some of the obstacles in the game require players to jump backward to proceed. This ability helps Ezio to reach new areas in situations where players cannot turn him around to face in the direction he must jump or if he has to jump from one wall to another behind him.

Hold down the right mouse button, or the right trigger button on console controllers, to enter high profile mode.

Use the "W," "A," "S" and "D" keys on your keyboard, or the left analog stick on console controllers, to maneuver Ezio into position. For a backward jump from one wall to the next, this means positioning Ezio to face the foot of the wall he is going to jump from.

Move the mouse or right analog stick around to get a better camera viewpoint. Ideally the camera should be in a position so you can see a side view of the action. This allows you to see both Ezio and the area into which you want him to jump.

Run into the wall you want to jump from. As long as you are in high profile mode, Ezio will automatically run up the wall. Hold down the left or right direction button, depending on what direction Ezio is facing, and press the jump button -- spacebar on a PC, "A" on an Xbox 360 and "X" on a PS3. Ezio will jump backward and turn around midjump to grab on to the surface behind him.

Tips

If Ezio is already holding on to a surface, and you want him to jump backward to grab a ledge, just hold down the direction button opposite to the direction Ezio is facing and press the jump button.

Warnings

Don't let go of the high profile button during this process, or Ezio will just perform the jump and not grab.
