How to Change the Main Domain Name in CPanel

cPanel does not offer a one-click option to change your main domain name. This is because, in an instant transfer without a redundancy backup, a glitch (sudden server failure, for instance) could cause you to lose all of your domain settings. Instead, to change your main domain name in cPanel, you must first add a secondary domain, and then park your first one.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your cPanel account.

    • 2

Select "Addon Domains" under the "Domains" menu.

    • 3

Enter the new domain information under "Create an Addon Domain." You'll also have to select a password for this domain.

    • 4

      Click "Add Domain."

    • 5

Return to the main cPanel window, and select "Parked Domains" under the "Domains" menu.

    • 6

Type your old domain name under "Create a Parked Domain."

    • 7

Click "Add Domain." With your old domain name now inactive, the domain you just added will become your main domain.
