How to Prevent Read Receipts
Microsoft Outlook is an email management application that can help you track when a user receives one of your email messages by using a feature called "read receipts." A "read receipt" alerts the sender that the email message has been viewed. While this feature can be helpful when used between friends or work colleagues, it can also be employed by spammers (senders of unsolicited advertisement messages) to track email addresses. By sending a read receipt back to the spammer, you are verifying your email address -- and will therefore be sent more spam. To avoid this situation, turn off read receipts.
