Keep Facebook friends up to speed with your news by updating your status from a cellphone.

Updating your status on Facebook is a convenient way to update your friends and family with personal news and information. If you're away from your computer and can't wait until you return to communicate with your contacts, then you might want to update your Facebook status with a cellphone. Facebook offers a full-featured mobile application for smartphone users, but there's also a simple way for regular cellphone users to update their Facebook status while out and about. You can sign up for a personalized upload email address, and email a status update to Facebook direct from your cellphone.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your Web browser. Navigate to facebook.com/mobile and sign in to Facebook.

    • 2

Click "Send my Upload Email to me Now" link at the bottom right of the Facebook Mobile page. This launches a pop-up window containing the email address you registered with Facebook.

    • 3

Click "Send Email." Facebook will now send you an email message containing your dedicated, personal upload email address.

    • 4

Launch the email software on your cellphone.

    • 5

Wait for the email from Facebook to arrive in the email inbox. Open the email message and write down or copy the personalized upload email address.

    • 6

Compose a new email message in the cellphone's email application.

    • 7

Type your status update in the "Subject" field on the new email message. Don't include any text in the main message body, because Facebook uses only the text in the subject field as your status update.

    • 8

Type or paste the personalized upload email address into the email message's "Address" or "To" line.

    • 9

Send the email. Facebook will publish the text in the subject line as a status update.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also upload photos or video clips by using the same process, but adding a video or image attachment to the cellphone email. If you do this, Facebook uses the text in the subject line as the photo or video caption instead of a status update.
