You can track employees' time devoted to a particular customer's job in QuickBooks 2010. You may need to track the time spent on each customer's job in order to bill him appropriately or evaluate the time spent completing the job. The time can be marked as billable or non-billable. You can also add notes to explain exactly what task was completed during that time period.

Instructions

  1. Set Up Time Tracking Preferences

      Sign in to QuickBooks under Admin in single user mode. Open the time and expense preference section. Go to "Preferences" under the edit menu. Click "Time & Expense" from the list on the left. Click the "Company Preferences" tab. Click "Yes" next to "Do You Track Time?"

      Select the day of the week you would like your timesheet to begin with from the drop-down list under "First Day of Work Week." Click "OK."

      Set up each individual employee for time tracking. Go to the Employee Center and double click the employee's name. Select Payroll and Compensation Info. Select Use Time Data when Creating Paychecks and click "OK." The employee is now set up to track time through Quickbooks.

    Enter Data for Weekly Timesheets

      Click "Employees" on the top menu bar. Mouse-over enter time.

      Select the employee that you are entering time for from the Name drop-down list. Select the customer that you would like the time worked associated with from the Customer: Job drop-down list. Select the service performed from Service Item drop-down list. Select whether this is a billable service or not by clicking the billable icon at the far right of the row next to the total column.

      Enter the employee's start and stop time in exact times. Use the format hh:mm. Time worked will be associated with the customer job selected.
