Galvanizing metal is the process of dipping it in a solution of molten zinc. Once dry, the metal, usually iron or steel, is protected from corrosion and rust. The surface of galvanized metal is usually shiny, but over time the shine can become milky or cloudy. You can restore shine to galvanized metal by removing the build-up that causes cloudiness.
Step 1
Fill a bowl with hot water and 1 tsp. of dish soap. Dip the brush into the soapy water and scrub down the galvanized metal with it to remove any built-up dirt. Rinse the metal with hot water. Rinse the brush as well.

Step 2
Fill a bowl with a mixture of 1 cup baby powder and 2 cups milk. Dip the brush into the mixture and scrub the galvanized metal with it to remove the cloudiness from the surface. Rinse the metal off with water and remove all of the mixture.
Step 3
Dry the galvanized metal with a towel. Remove all the moisture on the metal.
Step 4
Place 1 tsp. of metal polish on a cloth and rub it onto the galvanized metal in small circles. Work the polish into the metal to protect it and keep it shiny.
