How to Brush Canine Teeth

You should brush your dog's teeth frequently.

Things You'll Need

• Toothpaste made for pets flavored with chicken, beef or another enticing flavor.
• Toothbrush with soft bristles made for your dog's size.

Instructions

1. Get your dog used to the pet toothpaste. Offer a small amount to lick off your finger.

2. Using your finger, gently rub a few of your dog's teeth, getting it used to you touching its mouth and teeth. Give plenty of praise and treats as you go along.

3. Increase the number of teeth you touch as your dog becomes comfortable with you handling its mouth. This may take several days or even several weeks.

4. Brush your dog's teeth with the toothbrush and pet toothpaste. Brush in a circular motion and then down on the front teeth. Brush up on the lower teeth.

5. Give treats and praise while brushing.

6. Brush daily or as frequently as you can.
