How to Dispose of Koozies
Over time, a person can accumulate a surplus of koozies -- molded foam or fabric sleeves designed with solid colors or decorations used to keep liquids in bottles or cans cold while protecting hands from cold surfaces. Many event hosts at sporting events, radio stations, weddings and other promotional or special occasions give away koozies as gifts or prizes. People also acquire koozies from friends or purchase koozies for personal use. As some foams and plastics don't break down quickly in landfills, recycling and donation are the primary methods for disposing of koozies.

1
Contact your local municipal waste management facility and local recycling companies and ask if the material that your koozie is made of is recyclable. Some facilities offer options for hard and soft plastics, foam, foam rubber, neoprene and similar materials. If a facility will take your koozies, take the koozies to the facility or place them in pick-up recycling bins as directed by the facility representative.

2
Cut up natural fiber fabric koozies into small pieces or shred into fibers. Add the scraps or fiber to a garden compost bin. If you don't have a compost bin, reuse the fabric scraps as rags to clean up paint, oil or similar liquids and then dispose of the rags in the trash per local waste management disposal policies.

Reuse koozies around your home, office or garage. For example, lay a fabric koozie on a tabletop to double as a coaster or store items such as pens, coupons and other objects in a foam or fabric koozie.

Donate the koozies to schools or other organizations to reuse in sewing, craft or other projects. For example, students can use foam koozies in sculpture projects and quilters can use fabric koozies in quilts. Additionally, donate to thrift shops and churches that can sell your koozies to raise funds.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't know what materials a manufacturer used to make your koozies, contact the manufacturer for additional information. While asking about materials, also ask the manufacturer representative about recycling options. Some manufacturers offer recycling programs or support partner recycling programs.
If you're trying to dispose of a koozie because you don't like its color or the image or text printed on its exterior, change the appearance of the koozie so that you can continue to use it. For example, wrap the koozie's exterior with a piece of fabric and affix it with glue, or cover the image or text with a fabric sticker.
Some recycling facilities charge a fee to recycle certain koozie materials such as coated foam rubber.
