Some washing machines have an access panel on the lower front.

If you need to remove water from a stackable washer, you have options. A stackable washer provides a convenient appliance for small spaces. The dryer connects to the washer in the top position so the washer and dryer combination has a smaller footprint than the usual two appliance setup. There's more than one way to remove water from a stackable washer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Stalled Washer

    • 1

Turn off the washer if the washer stopped during a wash cycle. Open and shut the washer's door and press "Start." The washer won't operate if the door isn't closed. Restart the washer. If it still doesn't run, check your fuse box or breaker box for a blown fuse or breaker switch that needs to be reset.

    • 2

Replace a fuse or reset a breaker switch if needed. This may restore power to the washer.

    • 3

Turn the washer back on, and it will complete the wash cycle and drain normally, if loss of power was the reason for the water remaining in the stackable washer.

    Broken or Stored Washer

    • 4

Unplug the washer, if the outlet is accessible, to prevent the risk of electric shock. Make sure your hands are dry.

    • 5

Open the filter access panel if it's located on the front of the unit. On some models it's on the lower left front corner. Press the panel to open it or pull the handle. If the panel is located in the rear of the unit, get help with moving the stackable washer. Pull it out from the wall so you can open the panel. If the washer's original position prevented you from unplugging the washer before moving it, unplug it now.

    • 6

Put a dishpan on a towel near the washer. Grip the drain tube and extend it out from the stackable washer. Twist the cap on the drain tube counterclockwise and remove it. Aim the end of the tube into the container to drain the washer.

    • 7

Bail out any remaining water in the washer, using a plastic container such as an empty 16-oz. yogurt tub. Dump the water into the bucket. Use the towel to sop up the last of the wetness and dry the inside of the washer. This will prepare the washer for repair or help prevent corrosion and rust during storage.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the drain hose is inaccessible--for example, if the panel is in the back of the machine and you're unable to move the washer--use a wet-dry vacuum or shop vac designed for vacuuming water to safely siphon out the water.

  • Don't try to remove water from a washer with a vacuum that isn't designed for both wet and dry applications. Using a regular vacuum cleaner to siphon water could result in electric shock, severe injury or death.

  • Don't try to move the washer by yourself. A stackable washer is awkward to move, even for people accustomed to handling appliances. Don't risk injuring yourself.
