Adobe Illustrator is a graphics program that uses vectors to create intricate and scalable images. A deeper look at the program reveals a wealth of features that provides users with infinite creative possibilities. While the program can be used for highly complicated artistic tasks, it can also be simply navigated to create quick results. The reflection tool is among the quick and useful devices available in Illustrator that, once learned, will become a part of any graphic artist's toolbox.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document.

    • 2

Select the "Type" tool from the "Tools" palette. Click where you'd like to place your text. Type the desired text.

    • 3

Adjust the size, font, color or other aspects of the text if desired. Highlight the text and select a new size or font from the drop-down menus in the "Character" panel, or select a new color from the "Tools" palette.

    • 4

Find the text in the "Layers" palette. Click and drag the text layer to the "Create New Layer" icon, which is located next to the trash can, to duplicate the layer.

    • 5

Select and right-click the duplicate text. Choose "Transform" followed by "Reflect." Select "Horizontal" in order to create a realistic reflection beneath your text. Align the reflected text accordingly.

    • 6

Select the "Rectangle" tool from the tools palette. Draw a rectangle large enough to cover the reflected text. Color it with a gradient by selecting the "Gradient" tool from the tools palette and double-clicking the rectangle. Adjust the colors of the gradient if you'd like. Let your mouse hover over the end of the gradient bar until the "Rotation" icon appears, and then turn the gradient vertically.

    • 7

Select the rectangle and the reflected text by holding the "Shift" key while clicking both objects. In the "Transparency" palette, click the downward arrow to reveal extra options and choose "Make Opacity Mask." Leave the text selected, and change the opacity in the "Transparency" palette to "25 percent."

Experiment with your gradient and opacity percentage to create different results.
