Apologize to your girlfriend after you've made a mistake.

It goes without saying that if you've made a mistake and upset your girlfriend, it's time to apologize. However, if you went a little beyond simply making a mistake and instead overreacted, flipped out or just plain went crazy, you'll need to put in a little more work to get her to forgive you. Even if you've been getting the silent treatment, asking for forgiveness is the first step to reinstating your relationship. The way you apologize is extremely important and will determine how quickly you're forgiven.

Instructions

    • 1

Admit that you were in the wrong and acted completely inappropriately. Don't make excuses and downplay your actions, Keep your apology short and to the point.

    • 2

Offer a quick explanation for why you acted so out of character. For example, if your parents split up because of infidelity and you suspected your girlfriend of cheating, explain why you lost your mind at the thought. Stop at that, though. Too much reasoning looks like excuses instead of honest guilt. Tell her again that you know you were wrong and shouldn't have reacted the way you did.

    • 3

Write her a letter. Under normal circumstances, a sweet love letter would do the trick. However, since you went off the deep end, you'll have to make the letter more meaningful than just expressing your romantic emotions. Write down why you regret acting the way you did and that you won't act that way ever again. Putting it down in writing means that your girlfriend can refer to it in the future and be reassured that this problem won't show up again. It will also make you hold to your word, since you won't be able to deny what you wrote.

Be aware of your body language. Keep your head down, make eye contact and show your emotions openly. Be ultra aware of your tone of voice and your volume. Keep your voice calm and low. After you've acted crazy and possibly even inadvertently scared your girlfriend, you definitely don't want her to think you're raising your voice at her in any way.

Give her time to forgive you. A regular argument or disagreement can be easily let go, but if you've behaved terribly, your girlfriend might need ample time to move on from it and trust that it won't happen again.
