How to Get People to See Your Tweets

Twitter is a platform where potentially your one tweet could reach millions of people. When you first send a tweet it is more likely that just your followers will see it. However, with a little work your tweet can reach hundreds, thousands, if not millions of people. There is a variety of techniques you can use to achieve this, but the most common are to grow a following on Twitter as well as participate in popular discussions.

Log into your Twitter account. Scroll down the homepage to "Trending Topics." These are the most popular topics people are discussing on Twitter in real time. Use these words in your tweet if you want a lot of people to see them. When users click on the words or phrases, a list of real time tweets appear on the screen as a search result. Trending Topics are one of the quickest ways people spread news or ways that people interact with strangers on the social networking site.

Use an "@ reply" if there is a specific person you wish to read your tweet. An "@ reply" is created when you type "@" followed by the user's name. This is the way you tag someone or send a tweet directly to that user. Keep in mind that those who also follow you or are perusing your profile can still read these messages. Sometimes people search for tweets sent to a user (especially in the case of a well-known public figure or celebrity) and can read these tweets (sent from non-private profiles). So if the tweet is in regard to a famous event or person, @ reply the celebrity or public figure in the tweet.

Use a hash tag to draw attention to your tweet. A hash tag is a "#" followed by a word or phrase. For example common hash tags include "#fail," "#excited," #news," "#musicmonday" and "#followFriday". You can create your own hash tag, but using common ones will help users find your tweets. When a user clicks on a hash tag, all the tweets contain this hash tag appear on the screen.

Add followers to your Twitter account. It is likely if you tweet often or informative thoughts and information, others will follow you back. These followers may then suggest you "to follow" on Follow Friday and other users will also add you. All the users who follow you will see your tweets in their feed when you send them.
