The Millermatic 140 includes a detailed instruction manual and DVD.

The Millermatic 140 is a compact electric arc welding machine manufactured by the Miller Electric Welding company for hobbyist use in metal inert gas (MIG) welding. The Millermatic 140 operates at 115 volts and can weld at an amperage range from 30 amps up to 140 amps on aluminum, stainless steel and mild carbon steel. The Millermatic 140, like all MIG welding machines, requires installation of a MIG welding wire to serve as a wire electrode for the arc welding process as well as an external supply of inert welding gas to shield the weld from contaminants.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Load a roll of MIG welding wire into the Millermatic 140 by opening the side compartment panel and snapping the roll onto the spindle. Feed the MIG wire through the wire tensioner and over the feeder rollers until the wire enters the welding hose.

    • 2

Lower the wire tensioner to add resistance to the MIG wire. Close the compartment door on the side of the welding machine.

    • 3

Attach the air hose from the Millermatic 140 to the air regulator on top of the inert gas tank. Open the tank's valve to pressurize the hose.

    • 4

Turn on the Millermatic 140. Squeeze the trigger on the welding torch gun until the welding wire protrudes from the torch tip.

    • 5

Clamp the pieces of sheet metal that you are welding together in place so they do not move while you are welding. Clean the edges of the sheet metal with a wire brush to remove any paint, rust, corrosion or dirt.

    • 6

Hold the tip of the welding gun 1/8-inch from the sheet metal and pull the trigger to start the welding process. For best results, try to keep the welding torch at a 45-degree angle from the metal.

    • 7

Move the welding torch in a back-and-forth motion along the welding seam to melt the metals together. Continue this process until you reach the end of the sheet metal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear a welder's mask and gloves while welding.

  • Do not weld near flammable materials or while wearing loose-fitting clothing.

  • Do not weld in wet conditions.

  • Always weld in a well-ventilated area.
