How to File a Complaint Against an Oregon State District Attorney

Under Oregon law, all practicing attorneys in Oregon, including district attorneys, must comply with the Oregon Rules of Professional Conduct. If you believe that you have been the victim of unethical or illegal conduct by an Oregon District Attorney, you can ask the Oregon State Bar to investigate the alleged conduct by filing an ethics complaint.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a complaint form from the Oregon State Bar website. While the Oregon State Bar does not require use of a particular form for filing a bar complaint, the Oregon State Bar provides a complaint form for your convenience.

    • 2

Fill out the complaint form. Provide the current date, your name, address and telephone number. Provide the name, address and telephone number of the Oregon District Attorney against whom you wish to file a complaint. Provide a detailed description of your complaint --- including what you are complaining about, when and where the alleged unethical conduct took place and the names of attorneys or judges who may have witnessed the alleged unethical conduct.

    • 3

Provide copies of documents relevant to your bar complaint, including filings, motions or signed judicial orders.

    • 4

Mail your complaint form and copies of relevant documents to the Oregon State Bar. The mailing address for filing a bar complaint can be found at the top of the bar complaint form. The Oregon State Bar will investigate your complaint and let you know whether disciplinary action against the District Attorney is necessary.
