How to Bind a Quilt Using Satin Binding
Binding a quilt with satin binding or ribbon is a wonderful idea for a baby quilt. Babies love the different soft texture under their fingers, and it gives a soft look to the finished quilt. You can purchase pre-made binding at many craft or sewing stores, or simply use a wide ribbon with finished edges. Although the binding may start to show wear and tear after several years of hard use and many washings, the quilt can simply be rebound.

1
Lay your quilt on the table or floor. You need a large enough space for it to lay flat. Lay the binding along the edge of the quilt.
-
2
Pin the binding in place along one side of the quilt. Pin through the front of the binding, through all the layers of the quilt and along the back side of the binding.

-
3
Bring the binding out just beyond the corner of the quilt. Fold it diagonally back over itself, running along the other side of the quilt. Keep pinning along all four edges and corners.
-
4
Fold the end of the satin binding into the edge you first began. Sew them together on a diagonal and trim any loose ends.
-
5
Sew the binding to the quilt; go through all the layers to ensure it is secure. Use a zig-zag stitch to keep the quilt edges from fraying under the binding. Trim any loose threads and remove the pins.

Tips & Warnings
If the satin proves too slippery, take a few basting stitches along the way.
