Keep your faithful companion in top condition.

In "Fallout 3" players can recruit companions to help explore the ruins of the Capital Wasteland. These companions have their own inventory and weapons, which can be used as additional storage and as backup during a firefight. Your companions can be injured and even die during battle but will automatically heal themselves using any Stimpacks in their inventory. Dogmeat is the only companion incapable of healing himself mid-battle, so you must watch his health to avoid losing him.

Instructions

    • 1

During battle, enter VATS (Vault-tech Assisted Targeting System) mode and highlight Dogmeat to check his health bar.

    • 2

Run up to Dogmeat and speak to him using the "Interact" button if his health is low.

    • 3

Select the option that says "Here you go, boy," and one Stimpack will be spent from your inventory to restore Dogmeat's health.

    • 4

Exit the conversation and finish the battle. At the end of a battle, Dogmeat will enter a passive mode which automatically restores any additional damage he sustained.

Tips & Warnings

  • The automatic health restore for companions only occurs during the switch from battle to passive mode. Any environmental damage, such as from a fall or explosion, will be retained until healed by a Stimpack or restored at the end of the next battle.
