How to Soak and Sprout Nuts
Raw nuts contain enzyme inhibitors that protect the nuts during the growing process, but can play havoc with your digestive system. According to the Raw Food Living website, removing these inhibitors prior to consuming raw nuts makes them easier to digest and releases vital nutrients in the nuts. According to the website, Veggie Wave, only almonds will sprout easily and are the most nutritious nuts in the sprouting state. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 large mixing bowls
- Warm water
- Kosher salt
- Spoon
- Raw, skinless almonds
- Colander
- Cool water
- Paper towels
- Metal pizza pan

Fill a mixing bowl with 3 cups warm water. Add 1 tbsp. kosher salt. Stir until the salt begins to dissolve.

Fill a mixing bowl with 2 cups raw, skinless almonds. Pour the salt water over the almonds. Soak for seven to 12 hours.

Pour the nuts into a colander to drain the salt water. Rinse the nuts with cool water to remove the enzymes.

Place a layer of paper towels on the metal pizza pan. Set the colander on the pan and place in the refrigerator for three to five days to sprout.

Tips & Warnings
After sprouting, place the nuts on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and heat in the oven on warm at 150. If your oven does not allow this low setting, you can heat up to 180, but not higher or the nuts will begin to roast. Sprouting happens within five days.
