How to Make a Spider Mobile
Indulge your creativity and create a hanging piece of decor by crafting a spider mobile. Those that get a shiver down their spine from the mere thought of a big, black, hairy spider may relegate the mobile's use to Halloween. For those that have an affection for these eight-legged creatures, and other creepy critters, it might very well end up in a child's room. Either way, its creation is creepy crawly entertainment.

1
Paint the wooden dowels white with acrylic paint. Let them dry for an hour. Glue the center of the wooden dowels together to form a star burst shape with the ends of the dowels evenly spaced. Let the glue cool for 2 minutes. Pull off any strings of hot glue.
-
2
Tie the end of the yarn around the center of the dowels; wrap the yarn around the center of the dowels in all different directions 10 times to reinforce the glue holding them together. Wrap the yarn once around one of the dowels an inch out from the center. Move clockwise around the wooden dowels wrapping the yarn once around each one as you do. Continue moving clockwise around the dowels, wrapping the yarn around them creating a spiral from the center out to the tips to form a spider web. Cut the yarn and tie it around the end of the last wooden dowel.

3
Paint four foam balls black. Cut 24 1-inch pieces of black pipe cleaner while the balls dry. Fold one a 1/4 inch at one end of each pipe cleaner at a 90-degree angle. Fold a 1/4 inch at the other end of each pipe cleaner at a 90-degree angle in the opposite direction to form the legs for the spiders.
-
4
Place a small dot of hot glue on one end of one of the pipe cleaner legs. Insert that end of the leg into the spider so the other end of the leg points away from the body. Insert eight legs, four on each side, in each foam ball.
-
5
Attach two craft eyes on each spider using small dots of hot glue. Pull off any strings of hot glue left from attaching the legs and eyes from the spiders.
-
6
Cut two 18-inch and two 12-inch strands of yarn. Poke a small hole in the butt of one of the spiders. Fill the hole with a small amount of hot glue. Insert one end of a strand of yarn into the glue. Repeat with the rest of the spiders. Let the glue cool for 2 minutes. Tie a spider on every other wooden dowel end and one in the center of the dowels.
-
7
Cut a 36-inch-long piece of fishing line. Tie one end of the line to the center of the mobile. Use the other end to hang the mobile from the ceiling using a screw eye.
