How to Build Residual Traffic
Residual traffic is traffic that continues to come from a source after you have made the initial effort to bring visitors to your site. This is a very valuable way to build up the overall amount of visitors seen by a website. The more residual traffic sources you create, the more overall momentum your site builds. If you only gain traffic through short term methods, it becomes difficult to actually create growth. Residual traffic builds on itself and creates long term gains.

1
Ensure that your site is optimized for SEO. This means including keywords in the appropriate meta tags such as your title tags and headings. Also, make sure that you have keyword rich content on your site. Hire an SEO expert to evaluate and upgrade your site if you feel unprepared to tackle the chore yourself. Also, create massive amounts of onsite content, as every page you create that gets indexed brings additional, long-term traffic.

2
Create content for uploading to content aggregation sites. Make sure the content is valuable and interesting, and includes a link back to your site. The links will help boost your SEO profile while the content itself will attract direct traffic. The higher quality the content you create, the more residual traffic you will see. Submit articles to article sites, make YouTube videos and record podcasts.

3
Contact bloggers in a niche similar to your own and ask if they have guest post opportunities available. Archived blog posts are often found by Internet searchers and a popular post provides a long term source of residual traffic.

4
Start an online social networking profile or web 2.0 sites for your business. Consider a Facebook page, a Twitter profile and a blog or forums. Create a community where people interested in your business gather to chat, and it will turn into a constant source of traffic for your site.
-
5
Create joint ventures with other product or site owners on the web. A well-placed advertisement or permanently placed product that is the result of a collaboration between you and another company will turn into a long-term advertisement for your services.
