Directions for a Hexagon Weaving Loom
Hexagon weaving looms consist of a hexagon-shaped frame lined with evenly spaced pegs. Yarn is looped around the pegs in a figure-8 pattern. Once the yarn has been looped around two pairs of pegs that sit left to right on the loom, they are looped around pegs that go top to bottom on the loom to create a yarn grid that is tied together. Finished items that are woven on a hexagon loom are hexagon-shaped. Use your hexagon weaving loom to make potholders, place mats, coasters, and rugs with colorful yarn.

1
Tie the free end of the yarn onto the starting peg, which located on the top row, one peg in from the left corner.
-
2
Move the yarn to the first peg on the left from the starting peg and wrap it around the peg. Bring the yarn across the center of the loom, over to the parallel peg on the right and wrap it around the peg. Bring the yarn back to the first peg and guide it over the top of the peg. Move the yarn down to the next peg. Continue wrapping the yarn around two parallel pegs in a figure-8 pattern until you finish looping the yarn around the last to left to right parallel pegs.

3
Move the yarn down to the second peg from the left corner on the bottom row and wrap it around the peg. Turn the loom counter-clockwise until the peg you just made a yarn loop on is at the top of the loom. Begin looping the yarn in a figure-8 pattern, from left to right on parallel pegs as before to create a grid with the yarn.
-
4
Turn the loop counter-clockwise again until you reach the yarn loop on the starting peg. Insert the free end of the yarn into a plastic needle. Examine the yarn grid to find the first cross section of holes that lines up to make a hexagon shape with six triangle shaped holes. The points of the triangles will all meet at the cross-section.
-
5
Insert the needle from the front of the loom through the top-most triangle hole of the hexagon shape and pull it through. Insert the needle up through the triangle hole directly beneath it and pull it through. The points of these two triangles will meet at the center of the hexagon shape. Tie the free end of the thread to the thread in the top hole in a simple knot and pull it tight.
-
6
Insert the needle into the triangle hole directly to the right of the top triangle and pull it through. Insert the needle through the triangle hole directly to the left of the bottom triangle and pull it through. Tie the free end of the yarn to itself in a simple knot and pull it tight as before.
-
7
Insert the needle through the triangle directly to the right of the bottom triangle and pull it through. Insert the needle into the triangle hole directly to the left of the top triangle and pull it through. Tie the free end to itself in a simple knot as before.
-
8
Continue tying all the triangles that form a hexagon shape in the yarn grid together until you reach the bottom of the grid. Cut the free end of the yarn and tie it to the bottom right-most corner of the woven yarn. Gently remove the woven yarn by lifting it up off of the loom pegs.
