How to Shut Off IE8 Downloader

Internet Explorer gives you the option to stop downloads for user accounts.

You can configure Internet Explorer 8 to completely shut off all downloads while using the browser. This setting can be useful when children and guests have access to your computer, because downloaded files are a major source of computer virus infections. You can block only the children's and guest's account if you wish. Log in to each user account you wish to block and make the changes to the Internet Explorer settings from each account.

Instructions

1. Open Internet Explorer 8.

2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options." A pop-up box will appear.

3. Click on the "Security" tab, then put a check mark in the "Enable Protected Mode" box.

4. Click on the "Custom Level" button. Another pop-up box will appear.

5. Scroll down to the "Download" section. Under the "File Download" subsection, click "Disable."

6. Click "OK" twice to save the changes. Restart Internet Explorer to make the changes take effect.
