How to Make Black Magnetic Beaded Hemp Bracelets

How to Make Black Magnetic Beaded Hemp Bracelets thumbnail
Hemp is one of the strongest available fibers, making it great for long-lasting jewelry.

Hemp and magnets are two natural resources that when used together create an attractive and functional bracelet. Magnetic therapy is a popular method of healing used to restore balance and promote healing. Some believe that magnets stimulate the body to heal itself by aiding in the elimination of toxins. You do not have to be an expert jewelry maker to knot a hemp bracelet with magnetic beads. A few simple supplies and some patience are all that are required to knot together a rustic bracelet with therapeutic potential.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Hemp twine, 20 lb. test (1mm thickness)
  • Sharp scissors
  • Black magnetic beads with holes large enough for two strands of twine to pass through easily
  • Large round wooden bead with hole large enough for four strands of twine to pass through easily

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the wrist of the person who will be wearing the finished bracelet using a measuring tape. This will be the wrist measurement for making the bracelet. Write down the wrist measurement on a scrap piece of paper so you will not forget it.

    • 2

Measure out a 12-foot length of the hemp twine. Cut the twine at the 12-foot measurement. Fold the 12-foot length of twine in half. Cut it at the halfway point. You should now have two 6-foot lengths of twine.

    • 3

Fold both cords in half together. Tie an overhand knot with both cords to form a loop. Make sure the loop is large enough for the large wooden bead to fit through, then tighten it as much as possible. You should now have four strands of twine tied together with an overhand loop on one end.

    • 4

Separate the four strands of twine so that you have two center twine pieces and one on each side of the middle pieces. Carefully fold the right-hand outside piece up over the two middle pieces. Carefully fold the left-hand piece underneath the middle pieces and up through the loop made by the right-hand piece. Push the right-hand piece through the loop made by the left-hand piece. Tighten down the knot. This is half of a square knot. Repeat in the opposite direction to complete a square knot. Tighten the whole knot tightly.

    • 5

Tie a square knot under the previously tied square knot. Tighten it down evenly. Thread a magnetic bead unto the two middle pieces of twine. Pull the two outside pieces of twine down around the bead. Tie a square knot right below the bead. Tighten down the knot to hold the bead in place.

    • 6

Repeat step 5 until the entire bracelet measures the length of the wrist measurement. Tie a tight overhand knot below the last knot tied.

    • 7

Thread the large wooden bead onto the end of the bracelet, putting all four pieces of twine through the hole. Tie a tight overhand knot below the wooden bead. Cut off any extra twine below the wooden bead. Dip the last overhand knot in some white glue so that it does not come undone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use metal clasps on the end of the bracelet for a finished look.

  • If you are using different sized beads, place larger beads toward the center of the bracelet and smaller ones toward the outside. This will make the bracelet comfortable.
